I had protected sex with a prostitue what are the chances of me being infected by HIV? I've gone to many research symposiums on this topic and it always frustrates me how terrified people are of HIV. While HIV is a deadly/horrific disease, and we all should use protection, HIV is HORRIBLY INEFFICIENT (compared to other sexual viruses) at transmitting itself. The HIV virus inactivates within minutes of being on a table, exposed to air etc. In the world of viruses, it is ridiculously wimpy...you could interpret this as being in the presence of condoms etc. What you (more accurately) should be worried about is Herpes, random skin transfections (mollusca contagiosum etc), and Hepatitis. Hepatitis C is usually extremely difficult to catch via sex, but it is hundreds of times more infective than HIV, so if you were doing anything else (heavy kissing, oral etc) there is a chance. In other words, you could share a razor with a few drops of dried Hep.C blood and catch it, but you could share an old band-aid with many drops of dried HIV blood and you would most likely NOT ever catch anything. Herpes can be transmitted VIA THE SKIN. That's right. Research says groin-area skin can continually be shedding viral "loads" onto another person in contact, so condoms would not prevent everything. I wish more people knew this. Simple skin-to-skin rubbing would be enough, depending on the person "shedding" the viral load. In my opinion, wait 2-3 months (that's how long it takes to develop antibodies for most tests) and get tested for everything (HIV, Herpes, Hep. etc). But, I would stop fretting about the HIV and start worrying about Herpes etc (more likely). And please, if you want to see a prostitute that is your business and not my judgment. However, if you ever decide to get in a relationship or have sex with a woman/man who is not a prostitute, please do them the service of getting tested for everything prior and confirming you are negative. I can't tell you the exact odds from the situation that you described but I think they should be pretty low if no body fluids were exchanged. If you are concerned you should be tested and retested in 3 and 6 months and again in 1 year to verify the results. Next time though the best advice would be to skip the prostitute. very high you must be outta your mind what were you thinking? Why would you even be having sex with a hooker in the first place?? Yuck! Talk about risky behavior! You really need to go get checked...other STD's can get thru a condom! very high condoms are not 100% lol... those hookers are crawling... Get checked out ASAP and stay away from "ladies of the evening". Make sure you didn't catch anything that can cry,crawl, walk or itch and next time make better decisions about who you share your goods with. I know you have needs, but be smart about getting them fulfilled. Best wishes. |
