HIV transmission question. Knowledgable responses only, please.?

First and foremost, I'm not looking for a "OMG YOU DIDN'T USE A CONDOM?" response from any of you. I know the severity of my mistake and perhaps you should understand that this weighs on me daily and your comments are not to my benefit.

I had a sexual encounter seven weeks ago today, unprotected, in a hot tub. The contact was brief, lasting only 10 seconds, but yes penetration did occur.

Now, I do NOT know if in fact she has HIV/AIDS, but according to her local health department, and my state's CDC webpage, as of December 06, there is only 18 people (male and female combined) who have either HIV or AIDS in her health district.

If in fact (by some chance) she did carry HIV/AIDS, do I have a lesser chance of contracting the virus due to
1. The hot tub water...103 F at all times.
2. The short duration of exposure.

I fully intend on being tested regardless, but I am looking for some moral support at the moment as I have had many sleepless nights.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Let take a look at this mathematically shall we? Since I do not know your location, I can only assume that your reported number of 18 cases in "her health district", reflect that of the national average of .3% . That would be a total population of about 5000. If this health district you speak of has more population than 5000, then HIV/AIDS prevalence would be inversely proportional when based on the national prevalence. Basically what Im saying is, you have about third of percent chance that she even had HIV to begin with based on the national average.

Coupled with the fact that male homosexuals and IV drug users make up 85% of infection, we can conclude she probably didnt belong to a high risk of exposure group. If you or she isnt black, this further lowers risk of exposure accoridng to the CDC. If she was never exposed to HIV herself, its an impossibilty for her to ever infect you.

According to the CDC and other sources, it takes anywhere from 300 to 1000 unprotected sexual encounters with an infected person to transmit HIV. Even if she DID infact have HIV, thats either .3 or .1% odds for infection from 1 act of intercourse.

Assumming that hot tub used some form of chlorination, this would create a virtual impossibilty for transmission.

If you still feel worried, may wanna head on down to your local convenience store and purchace a lotto ticket as well. The odds of this scenario of infection are just not probable.

Hmm. I get thumbs down for pointing out a mathematical improbability. Maybe those people are mathematically challenged or maybe just math denialists. I recall Oprah saying 1 in 5 people could be infected by 1990. 17 years later its still no where close to the fear propaganda of the late 80s.
I personally think you are worried over nothing. 18 REPORTED people in her health district, BTW. Many people have it and don't even know it. But truly, the chances of a man getting infected by a woman are much less than vice-versa. Though I'm glad you are getting checked. And perhaps the worry you have placed on yourself is God's way of freaking you out so you make better decisions in the future. My guess is, you will never do it again. Good luck and be smarter next time.
bodily fluids still mixed.....but i do know that if i have an open cut and blood from someone with hiv gets in it there is still only a 1 in 300 chance that i would contract hiv..i hope that helps a little
That is sort of hard to answer. I think when you have sex with someone without protection, no matter where you are, or how hot the water was, etc. you are still at risk and although there such a low amount of people in the district who have hiv/aids, you never know. However, youre bright enough to get tested. You should find out more about her, has she had a lot of sexual partners? Does she do any sort of drugs that involve needles, etc.

Good luck and best wishes.
None of those factors matter. A hot temperature like that will not kill aids, and it doesn't take a long duration of exposure to contract it. so you could have it.

but the only way to know is to get tested.
and next time, use a rubber.
Let me set you straight on some things. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus can cause AIDS which stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Men are less likely to get this virus due to the relatively short period of time that they stay in contact with infected fluids. The high temperature plus the chemicals in the water leave you with a less than 1% chance of having contracted the virus. You will be okay, more than likely.
You are correct in your assumption. The HIV virion is an incredibly fragile virus. Though I am not sure if the temperature of the water would have killed the virus, the chemicals present would have. Also don鈥檛 let the statistics you quoted fool you, 20%-25% of people infected with HIV don鈥檛 know it so, they wouldn鈥檛 be 鈥渞eported cases鈥?
