Could you get HIV or AIDS from a pet?

Just wondering....it has been bothering me ever since my dog just comes up to me and licks my sore....i hate that!

No, HIV can't be transmitted by pets. Animals have a different genetic make-up to us (except primates), so therefore HIV wouldn't infect them - just as cats can get feline AIDS - which can't infect us.
Strictly speaking, the only way your dog could pose a risk is if it bit a HIV positive person and it bit you/licked your sores IMMEDIATELY afterwards, with the person's blood still on/literally dripping off it's teeth - which is extremely unlikely - so don't worry you'll be fine.
Additionally, your sores need to actually be open (not scabbed over) to be at any risk.
What would be best is to keep your sores covered up until they heal so that you don't get germs/bacteria into them which can cause infections. It's probably not a good idea to let your dog lick your sores because they lick their bottoms and may pass on bacteria from their faeces. Source(s): Knowledge of Sexual Health/STD's.
No really do not think so. But I do not that there is bacteria in the salvia which can infect wounds and can cause problems when salvia enters the eye. Thats why you should always cover and use antiseptic on all wounds to kill the bacteria.
No you can not.

no
No absolutely not. But you might stop your dog from licking your sores so they do not get infected with the bacteria in his/her mouth.
No, HIV means Human immunodeficiency virus that means only humans can transmit and carry the virus.

Pets and some other animals have a different form of it. Like cats can get FIV-(Feline immunodeficiency virus). Or for dogs CIV-(Canine immunodeficiency virus).

Also HIV cannot be transmitted through saliva.

Even if your dog did have CIV and he licks your sores it can't transmit through his saliva and turn into HIV. It's just impossible!
