Is the HPV shot more painful than most other shots?

My mom set me an appointment to get the HPV shot this Thrusday. She didn't tell me about it because I am very scared of having to get anything medical done...I found out because I happened to find the appointment card she left on the table.
2 of my friends (who are sisters) got their 8th grade shots as well as the 1st HPV shot a few months ago. They both said that the HPV shot was much more painful than any of the other shots they got. They said when the actual shot was going in and circulating through their veins it was excruciating, and their arms hurt for days after. Has anyone else had it, and do you agree that it is more painful than a typical shot? I haven't had shots in over 3 years so I can't really remember how bad they normally are. Any tips to prevent pain or just put my worries to rest? What would getting HPV be like? If you just take a perscription to treat it...that might be better than a shot. What do you think? Please help! Thanks for the answers! Please be nice.

By the way, where is it given? I know it's in the arm, but my friends said it is given very high up and feels like it's hitting the bone. Is that true?

i have all 3 of the HPVshots trust me its well worth it...the first one i got in the butt the 2nd and 3rd in the back of the arm...i believe they do them all in the back of the arm right now
it doesn't not hurt but it isn't like a crazy roll on the floor pain
just get it done trust me its alot better then finding out you are in stage 2 of pre cancer ( yes i am) i waited almost to long to get mine i got it at 19

just get it done be brave its worth it!

HPV...is pretty much something a guy gives you it doesn't mean he isn't clean or your not clean its just their and it cases cerival cancer...there is 3 stages 1 2 3 and cancer you can stay in 1 2 or 3 your whole life but there is a n 80% chance your body will fight off stage 1...alot of ppl have hpv that is why you should always wear a condom!! and if you do turn out having cancer they will probably take out your cervix like they did for my mom you don't have a period any more but also you can't have babies

edit....its like the back fatty kinda part of your arm im really tiny and it didn't feel like it was hitting the bone it was right beside your arm pit but not in your arm pit it was just a fast shot

Ignore them and get on with it. Like any vaccination, some people react badly, and others not at all. Just turn your head away and don't watch the needle.

If you're that frantic, eat something sugary just before. It's not like getting a tattoo for pity's sake.

I don't know how painful the shot is, but it's got to be less painful than CANCER. Which is what HPV can turn into. A vaccine before the fact is a lot better than treatment after the fact.

I think it's just swell that your two friends are trying to scare you out of this. That's so nice of them.

Talk to your mother. Maybe she can arrange for the doc to prescribe you a nice big tranquilizer before your appointment. I've gotten through hours of excruciatingly painful dental work that way.

But you're going to have to get used to getting shots and having blood drawn. It's routine medical care, and you'll have it all the time.

No they do not hurt at all. They feel like any other pill to me.

No it's normal. Not that bad Try This: Have a parent or someone sqeeze your hand real tight so that you'd be focused on the pain of your hand, not the pain of the shot.

yes,I think the needle is in for a longer time that with most shots.
mine hurt 0_o

As far as getting the shot vs getting cancer... be brave and get the shot! I haven't had mine yet, but I am scheduled to get it next week. I have heard that its a big pinch and your arm will be sore... but its not the end of the world. Take someone with you to hold your hand and while you are getting the shot, breath deep and talk to the person w/ you. You will be fine-- but believe me... you WILL be happy to get the shot and avoid the cancer/HPV. The shot is given in the upper arm region into the muscle. Be brave, look at the person who came w/ you and be strong.

we dont call it that... Its teh BCG and it dont hurt theres on 6 needles there it dont hurt at all
