Why wasnt hpv ever heard of before until now?

is this a new std? or was this disease that causes 90% of cervical cancer cases always around but we just didnt have a name for it??

why did they give it a different name if its genital warts why not just keep calling it that..is it to scare people?

This virus has been around a LONG time... but it had not been specifically identified yet. We have known for a long time that all warts were caused by viruses, but not that it could mutate into cervical cancer.

Part of the reason it has taken so long is viruses are SO SMALL that regular microscopes could not see viruses and the high powered electron microscopes were not around till a few decades ago....

CAN you imagine where medicine will be in 50 or even 20 years!!! I probably won't have a job!

They never did change the name, it has always been HPV, the wart you get on your hands or planters warts on your feet are ALL human papilloma virus (HPV). They just were not aware that genital warts (HPV) or specifically warts on the cervix (HPV) could lead to cervical cancer and is the #1 cause of cervical cancer.

HPV has been identified for a number of years now...in the past this condition was called "genital warts". Yes, this is the virus that some believe causes cervical cancer.
