GF has genital warts. Does their presence increase my chances of getting them too? obviously we both have HPV.

We don't know who gave to whom, but both been monogamous for 6 months. I've never had genital warts but she got them a couple weeks ago. We've only had sex once since. Just wondering if having sex while they are present presents a higher chance of me getting them or if it doesn't matter since I already have the virus as well.

There are no tests for HPV in men per my research. Also HPV can lie latent for months even years.

If she just got them a few weeks ago then she either had them all along and didn't tell you, or hasn't been monogamous. Most folks get them like 1 month after first contact with someone else that's got them and they can reoccur at random intervals... the doc told me that 50% of people clear the virus within 5 years and are clean, and the rest have them for life.

The warts themselves shed alot of virus, so if you come in contact with them you will probably get them too. They have an HPV vaccine for women, but she obviously didn't go and get it. She needs to see a doctor to have them frozen off and don't have sex until they're gone. A condom probably will not protect you from them depending upon where they are.

You prolly have the virus already...... try and steer clear of her untill the warts themselves have been eradicated. If you can keep it in ur pants shower after intercourse

YES! And I wouldnt haves sex with her at all! Very bad idea.... maybe you just need to end this relationship for your own health and safety and go to the Dr right away for a test! If she has it and you dont- consider yourself VERY lucky and move on. It is something that she will always have! Even if they "go away:.

yes

Yes... absolutely. The skin is a very resilient barrier, but also permeable by warts (a virus) and herpes (a virus). Will you get warts from her? Not necessarily. But as you suspect: there Is always the possibility. Partners that are together for years often share their viruses and while condoms offer some protection: there is No perfect and sure way to Not give and get viruses from each other. A virus can lie dormant for days to Years! They can be passed by direct as well as indirect contact between 2 people. An interesting side bar to this is: If you get say herpes from a partner... does that give you some kind of immunity from getting more? No. Let's say a partner gave you herpes on your penis. There is nothing to say this same partner can't later give you herpes on your perineal area or anywhere else. These are viruses and they live on the inside and the outside of the body: from the mouth to between the toes (any anywhere in between these two opposite body locations). Hope this helps. Take care! Dr. Steve G.
