How do you know that you no longer have HPV? |
I was diagnosed with HPV earlie this year. I went back for all my follow up's and had a leep done. I just went back this month and had another pap smear done and the results came back normal. Does that mean i no longer have HPV? Most viruses will stay with you forever (like herpes), but, fortunately, HPV usually goes away. According to the government Center for Disease Control, MOST women will clear HPV out of their bodies within 2 years. If you no longer test positive for HPV, it is gone. Congratulations! You are one of the 80% of women who can fight off HPV! That doesn't mean you can't get it again or get another strain, but for now it is gone. It is the only viral STD that can clear the body and go away permanently on its own. Probably not, you are still a carrier it just is not affecting your paps and you can still pass it on. Some thought is that after two years the virus goes dormant and that may be the case in your situation. How long do you suspect that you had it? once you contract HPV....you always have it. it may never appear again but its there laying dormant and you can pass it on to others. please make a point to get your pap smears yearly now...HPV is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer they dont test for hpv unless you have symptoms since youve already tested positive its a waste of test hpv stands for human papilloma VIRUS a virus cannot go away i have hpv always will just have to get annual checkups |
