How do I deal with HPV/genital warts? |
A couple months ago, I tested positive for HPV (not HIV) and just recently, I started getting genital warts from it. It's my first time getting them, so i'm new to it all. I'm gonna get them removed next week. The problem is that I know it's a virus, so aren't the warts just gonna keep coming back? It's just making me depressed and I feel alone about this whole thing. I feel like I have no one to talk to or that no guy is gonna want to date me. I really don't know how to deal with this. I'm 24 and honestly I don't have a lot of friends. When I told my best friend I had HPV, she told her bf and they just made fun of me and laughed. I can't tell my mom because I'm not married and she doesn't believe in sex before marriage. I feel so alone...dunno how to accept this or deal with it. I have no one to talk to. Valtrex is for herpes. I don't have herpes! In today life Genital Warts is look at as a nasty dirty disease. People will make fun of you and laugh at you and yes dating will be even harder then ever. If you plan on being sexual active then you have to tell you partner that you have HPV before any sexual activity. People will look at you and judge you and even call you all kinds of names. You need to see your doctor and he can give you information on help groups that is in your area. You need to seek the comfort and support of these groups. Learn how to treat the condition then learn how to live with it. You will have this for the rest of your life. Learn all that you can and from now on use a condom for any and all sexual activity. well for one you should be on valtrex for the warts and your dr should of given you some advice about the HPV go to your geno and see him/her Warts usually clear up on their own but they can recur. Your doctor will probably prescribe you Aldara or another cream. It highly unlikely they'll give you an acid treatment or a cryo since you just got them. You won't feel like this forever, I promise! When I first got HPV/warts I was completely devasted and disgusted but I've accepted it. And youd be kinda suprised that some guys are okay, as long as you use protection!!!!!!! I'm sorry you don't have anyone to talk to about it, Believe me I know how bad it sucks. I'm sure your local clinic has STD counseling so you could try there. I wish you the best of luck hun!!!!! talk to ur gynecologist they can give u information about the disease and on suport groups I very recently found out that I have genital warts as well, and I'm having all the same feelings as you are. What makes matters worse for me is that I have to tell my long-term b/f that I contracted this during the year that he and I were broken up. We only recently got back together and I'm so scared that he's going to leave me, even though I know he cares about me a lot. I also feel totally alone and like no one understands. Like you, I'm also 24 and very new to this whole std thing. I never thought it'd happen to me, and I didn't even do anything more than mess around with this guy! If it helps, you aren't alone in feeling like this. I'd really like to talk more if you'd like to. Maybe a friend in a similar position could help us both to deal with it...sorry if that was creepy at all. Good luck to the both of us, eh? |
