Can roommates catch the HPV virus from sharing a kitchen or bathroom? |
My new female (I'm a girl, too) college roommate was just told by her doctor that she has HPV. We share a bathroom as well as cooking and eating utensils. Should I be worried? What precautions should I take? I haven't had the vaccine yet. There is NO SEXUAL CONTACT. If she has the type of HPV that causes warts, don't use her bathroom towels. More likely is that she has high-risk HPV that lives on the cervix- so I wouldn't worry about it contracting it unless you share a douche or something VERY strange and already risky like that. There is no risk from the sink/cutlery you share. HPV is VERY VERY common- more than 50% of people of college age have it, and more than 80% of people have contracted it by the age of 50 so your room mate is far from unique. You might well already have it too. No you can't catch the virus. So don't worry okay! it's skin to skin. "All HPVs are transmitted by skin-to-skin contact." |
