If i have HPV and Group B Strep, How should I deliver my baby? IM SO CONFUSED AND SCARED!!! PLEASE HELP? |
I am 23 years old, this is my first child and I am due on March 3. I have HPV and just found out today that at the doctor that I had Group B Strep. I am confused because I dont know how I should deliver my baby?!!!??!! My mom wants me to get a c-section but I have been reading a few articles on HPV and they tell me that it's okay to get a c-section but then when I read an article on Group B Strep, it told me not to get a c-section. Please help!!! Serious answers only.. I need to figure out what to do before its time to deliver.... With your HPV it is a possibility that you could pass it on to your baby when you deliver vaginally (note key word Possibility). HPV is for life and can do a lot of damage the older the child gets if infected. Before you make this decision you and the baby father needs to talk openly with your doctors about all your concerns. The bottom line is this, it's not what will be best for you or the father but it's what will be best for the baby. That baby is you first, last and only concern. I wish you the father and your child the best and God's hand in guidance in this decision. If you have group B strep, you can deliver vaginally. You need to be premeditated with antibiotics though. I have never heard of getting a C-section for HPV. Almost all of us have been exposed to some strain of HPV. i also have a history of HPV and was group B strep positive with my daughter. i delivered vaginally and everything was just fine, the deal is that you need to have antibiotics for the strep within 24 hours of your water breaking so just go in when you start going into labor so you can receive the antibiotics thru your IV. don't get a c-section unless you have to. talk to your dr about your concerns. my baby girl was healthy and all was good. FYI- i am a registered nurse. if you have group b strep, you can still have a vaginal delivery, they'll just put you on antibiotics while in labor to prevent any effects to the baby.. I think to be sure you should deffinately discuss your concerns with your ob and he/she will be able to give you the best information and just make sure you understand your options. Good luck! your obgyn should tell you how to diliver your baby, the best advice in your situation is asking your doctor not us! I don't see any reason why you can't deliver vaginally. Your doctor can help you weigh these facts. HPV is more common than you think and tends to grow at a more rapid pace when you are pregnant. I have HPV and I delivered my baby vaginally. I would make sure that after you have your baby that you follow up with your local health department and take the steps necessary for follow up. You'll probably have to repeat your pap smears more often than you would like but as long as you routinely visit your health department and do as instructed most of the time this will go away. The last thing you want to do is not go for your regular checkups and let it turn into cervical cancer |
