HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV) HPV affects both women and men.
Anyone who has any kind of sexual activity involving genital contact with an infected person get HPV鈥?intercourse isn't necessary.
Many people who may have HPV may not show any signs or symptoms, so they can pass the virus on without even knowing it.
HPV is easily transmitted. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 20 million people in the United States already had HPV in 2005. According to the CDC, the only way you can totally protect yourself against HPV is to avoid any sexual activity that involves genital contact. HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18 account for the majority of HPV-related clinical diseases.
Of the approximately 6 million new cases of genital HPV in the United States every year, it is estimated 74% of them occur in 15 to 24 years olds.
As reported at www.wedmd.com
It has also been reported that if an infected object comes in contact with the genitals area the virus can be transfer.

its a std. you cant get it from being around her. dont worry ur safe.

hpv is the virus that causes genital warts, it has nothing to do with periods. It is contagious through contact. Your mom has only had a period 5 or 6 times???? How is that possible. Definitely see a doctor!!

I don't see a relationship with HPV and having alot of periods. From having alot of periods, your mom could have ovarian cysts or just going through the "change of life". You cannot catch HPV from your mother(if she even has it) unless she leaves blood all over the toilet and you hop down as soon as she gets up. HPV can only live outside the human body for 6 seconds on dry surfaces and 9 seconds in warm wet surfaces(such as the bath tub). So dont fret about it, you should worry about getting your mother convinced to go to the doctor. Having too many periods like that is not healthy. Also remember- HPV causes cervical dysplacia and eventually turns into cancer of the cervix. Get your mommy checked out, you only get one....please keep us posted....

HPV is a common virus that infects the skin and mucous membranes. There are more than 100 types of HPV. The types of HPV that cause common warts, such as those found on the hands and feet, are spread through skin-to-skin contact. In addition, it is also possible to get these common types of warts after sharing towels or other objects with a person who has warts.

About 30 types of HPV are spread only through direct genital contact. These 鈥済enital鈥?types of HPV are either: 1) 鈥渉igh-risk鈥?-- which means they can cause certain kinds of cancer (most commonly, cervical cancer) if the infection persists, or 2) 鈥渓ow-risk鈥?鈥?which means they are not associated with cancer, but can cause genital warts. Unless you develop one of these problems, the only way to know whether you have HPV is by being tested.

The types of HPV that cause genital warts, abnormal cervical cells,and/or cervical cancer are spread from person to person through sex or intimate skin-to-skin (genital) contact. They are not spread by breathing the air, touching inanimate objects (such as a door knob) or shaking hands.
