HPV/genital warts exposure?

I was exposed to a person with a visible genital wart and who contracted HPV. I'm already scheduled to get the Gardasil vaccine early next week and this happened on Thursday. From what I've read it takes your body around 2 months to form any sort of reaction to this disease and you won't show any symptoms for around 2 months to a few years in certain circumstances. Will I still get the disease even if I get my first shot and continue with the 2nd and 3rd? I'm just really worried because I don't want to spread the disease to a future partner. I really feel as if the vaccine will prevent the HPV from forming although I have read it does not eliminate any warts or HPV or the cervix if you already have it but I highly doubt that I would already have the virus in my body and the vaccine would work. Any thoughts?

Why on Earth would you have sexual contact with ANYONE who had a visible wart on their genitals??!!

When you get the shot, speak with the doctor/nurse and ask about this. Thing is, you've already been exposed. The vaccine would help for FUTURE exposure, not past exposure.

Every exposure does not lead to a contracted of HPV, so either you contracted it or you didn't.
- If you did, although you may not have symptoms for 6+ months, Gardisil will not protect you from the disease. Just as they say on the commercials, Gardisil cannot treat HPV.
- If you weren't infected: lucky you! The Gardisil vaccine will help prevent contraction of HPV in future scenarios. I might add a word of caution: be careful next time. The fact that you were exposed once means that you need to be more discerning about sexual experiences, etc.

I would talk to the doctor who gives you the vaccine. I would also get tested for HPV and other common STDs asap. If you do have HPV, there are steps to take to prevent cervical cancer, etc.

Good luck and I hope everything works out!

Definitely go ahead and get the vaccine even though it won't protect you from any strains you already have but it will protect you from any new ones that you may be exposed to in the future.

Don't worry so much about the warts from that guy. You might not get them anyway. Not everyone who is exposed to warts will get them although your body knows you've been exposed. It's not that big a deal so don't worry about it too much.

Take care,
