Should I get the Gardasil shot if I already have HPV?... and I'm engaged.? |
I've been sexually active with my fiance for about 9 months and I recently had a pap smear that revealed that I am positive for HPV. Before the results came back I got the first Gardasil shot to prevent HPV. I just had a colposcopy and the results came back as normal (as though I don't have the type of HPV that causes cervical cancer?). So, I'm curious as to if I should continue with the Gardasil shot (it is a series of 3 shots) even though I already have one strand of HPV and I'm in a serious (monogamous) relationship in which I'm having sex with the one person I will have sex with for the rest of my life. Doesn't that make it impossible to get the other strands of HPV? i have hpv and my doctor reccomended that i get the vaccine, because it will help protect other strains of it,and even maybe someday help get rid of it. The vaccine doesn't cure HPV. You should ask your OBGYN before getting the other shots. He/She will be able to advise you on the pros and cons. |
