Is it possible to contract hpv and not show signs of it for 10 or more years?

i recently asked a question regarding skin tags/genital warts and omitted this part of the question, and i want to know this because i have been married since 1998 and slept with no one else since 1995 and i know my wife is faithful and i too have been very faithful

Yes.

HPV infections are extremely slow. The average time from acquisition of a high risk type of HPV to the detection of cervical cancer is 20 years (Myers et al. Mathematical model for the natural history of human papillomavirus infection and cervical carcinogensis. Am J Epidemiol 2000;151:1158-1171)

i do think its possible,
cause it happened to me i had hpv u dont really have signs of it so i didnt know i had it my doc told me it could of been there for 10 yrs they dont know how or when it started but i think its possible to have it and not to know it.

Yes it is 100% possible. Some people have it and never show a sigh which is why it is so common. It is also a possibility that your wife could have had it for a prolonged period of time and is symptom free. In your situation it is hard to tell who gave it to who if both of you test positive for it. Just because you have areas and she doesnt does not mean that you have had it longer. It is a virus and can lie dormant for years. I do suggest that you seek medical treatment for numerous reasons. It is possible for your wife to get it in her mouth/throat (though not as common) by giving you oral. I would be happy to explain things to you on yahoo messenger if you ever catch me online. Take care and good luck.
