Which 4 types of HPV have been linked to cervical ca.?

It's been awhile, thanks for the input.

Thanks Uncola, this has been on my mind for like 2 days.

There's more than four.

Types 16, 18, 31, 33, 39, 45, 52, and 58 have been associated with cancers. 16 and 18 are the commonest, and account for more than 70% of HPV related cancers.

Types 6 and 11 tend to be associated with benign lesions (warts) rather than cancers.

[Edit] Tell me about it. Does Yahoo Answers count as CME?

Your the Doc on this.......I realize that women need to know how to protect themselves against the HPV...but sometimes I feel that the women who have never had more than 1 partner and each have had only each other and then come up with cervical cancer are lumped in that HPV category . When you say cervical cancer now people raise an eyebrow like " I know what you been doing" and my grandmother and mother and I had it and I know no one had multiple partners nor were the partners being other than with them. With there being so much on it as a sexual cancer it really puts a stigma on it!!
Not that I think at all that warnings shouldn't be out there...save as many women as possible...just make a note that it can be genetics as well!

to Cutiebot...

There's a HPV vaccine in the works.

HPV can cause cervical cancers but not all cervical cancers are caused by HPV. Non-HPV cervical cancers are more agressive/ fatal than HPV- induced cancers. You also get HPV by using contaminated towels. Most of the time, it's the benign ones that won't cause cancer.

I know that there's a stigma on it. It started because of ignorance. So people should know the facts first and education is the key to stop the stigma.
