How long before HPV may come back?

Hi,

I first got an outbreak from HPV on September 2006. On August 2007 I went to my GYN and found out my PAP was normal but my HPV test was Positive for HIGH HPV. I was worried and concerned. I did what I had to do for follow up. On October 2007, after having a Colposcopy done, I had Cryotherapy. OUCH! It was done. I leaked for 1 month! I went for a follow up at my GYN and on January 2, 2008 my GYN said my PAP was normal and my HPV is negative. Help me understand this. Can it be my body has repressed it? Or does it take time before the HPV is shown again to be present on my cervix? I am due for another followup up in May 2008 and I am soooooooooooooo dreading it! Any responses from those who have maintained negative after HPV or anyone who has had HPV results that were positve then negative then positive.

The odd thing is I have always used condoms. Never unprotected sex!

It sounds like you're doing everything right. You shouldn't have another positive, unless you continue to have unprotected sex with infected partners. Has your gyn talked to you about Guardasil? That may help you. I have only ever had one positive on the cervix and never again, the colpo took care of it. Be careful, always use condoms, and if you're in a monogomous relationship, make sure your partner is clear. You should be more concerned with external flare-ups that can be triggered by a lot of things, especially stress.

I had abnormal cells too(HPV) and also had a colposcopy.. Chances are things will be fine.. I had mine in around 1997. Since then my pap smears have been clear. Now I only have to get checked once a year. Its my understanding that it can go away, anyone can carry it without knowing it for many many years, and it can be spread by anything as small as a finger because any warts on hands can be transmittable.
& now theres that vaccine for girls under a certain age which is good cause it is scarry to have a hpv/cancer scare.
