HPV- please help?

I noticed my boyfriend has a large red wart-like blotch on his buttocks, not especially near the anal area. He also has them on his arms and feet. When I asked him, he told me they were only contagious with blood contact.
I went to get myself checked out today at the gynecologist and she told me that there's a good chance I have caught the virus. He tells me it isn't the STD kind. I've not shown any symptoms of gential warts and was wondering, if the sore is on his ''butt cheek'' but not anywhere near his penis, is it the STD kind or just the wart-causing kind of HPV?

He's been to the doctor who told him he just needs to use standard wart freeze cream. They didn't mention anything about it being and STD and told him it's only transferred by blood contact.

It could also be a staph infection. Which are very contagious.
Your boyfriend really is the one who needs to be checked out.
It really can't be diagnosed on Yahoo Answers.
Also a lot of STD can take up to 6 months until you see symptoms. So you might not even have any symptoms or test positive for 6 months.
Also as a precaution for youself look into getting the gardisal shots. Its the HPV shot that can help protect you from getting teh virus.

I'm pretty sure the wart-causing kind of HPV can only be on your genitals. But if he says its contagious through blood contact, it could be an STD. I would have him go get checked out for your safety.

i would have to say it could very likly be hpv so make sure he goes and gets checked because this could cause some damage if left untreated so make him an appointment asap

i understand your dread... have yourself checked right away. hope it's just something else and not HPV. Don't waste any time, HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer...

All warts are caused by the HPV virus; however, the high risk strains of HPV that can cause cervical Cancer generally do not cause warts. Sexually transmitted HPV may cause warts or may not. 1 in 2 people are infected with a strain of HPV so it is very common. However, you should consider getting the Gardisil vaccination which protects you from getting many of the strains that can cause cervical Cancer. HPV is transmitted through direct skin-to-skin contact.

There is no FDA approved test for men for HPV unless they are diagnosed by a visual symptom. Therefore, it is important for you to use protection while having sex to reduce your chances of getting infected. Your partner does not have to have a visible wart to give you HPV.

I have a high risk strain of HPV so it is important for me to have a pap every 3 months to make sure there are no signs of Cancer. Cervical Cancer is a slow growing Cancer so it can be kept at bay with regular check ups. Most of the time, your body's immunity system can fight off HPV from turning into Cancer, but once you have high risk HPV, it is very important to keep getting regular paps.

Hope that helps!

normally if it is hpv that is a std the warts are in the area of the genitals and anal. they can spread in bunches but don't usually spread to other parts of the body. they are in groups of small warts and i don't think they are red, but i could be wrong. they are highly contagious. he may need to go get checked out too . it may not be what he thinks....and needs medication to treat it so the outbreaks are less. you can have it and show no symptoms so keep going back to be checked. the health dept is prob the best place to go economically. it can be treated so don't be worried. there are different types of treatment available and medications you can take. if you go to the doc he goes to the doc. or he is cut off. ;] good luck
