ok so the gyno called me and said i had an abnormal pap smear and that i have hpv. can you et it from fingering? my mom does not know yet. whats going to happen to me? I have not heard of transmission of HPV from fingering because HPV is sexually transmitted, unless of course your partner was touching his genital area, etc and then touching you. The virus that causes warts on your fingers or feet and skin, etc, is a different strain of the HPV virus than the one that causes warts in your vagina and on your cervix. Have you been sexually active yet besides the "fingering"? They will treat you for the infection. If you have low grade they can choose to let it burn itself out (which is usually the case, it will go away on its own) or clean up your cervix when they do a biopsy (removing areas of the cervix infected). If it is something more the doctor will need to be more agressive and do a LEEP, which removes the parts of the cervix infected with HPV. Your mom will realize what causes HPV, and that she should not get upset because up to about 90% of people on this earth carry some strain of HPV in their bodies. It is extremely common, so do not worry! Don't know if you can get it from being fingered. I had an abnormal pap also and I have high risk HPV. It not as bad as it sounds. Most women get it in their lifetime. Its usually goes away on its own. When you go to your GYN next year they will check again and if it is still abnormal the will do some other tests. If you need more info. contact your doctor or search the Internet. I know the CDC has good information. Take Care! Are you saying that you never had intercourse? My sis in law had it and went through lots and lots of waiting...they kept saying come back in a year, come back in a year, come back in 6 months, then turns out it should have been taken care of ASAP. Never got better, ever. She had to go through several painful procedures, because she waited (like the DR said). She got cervical cancer at very young age. I think she was 19 when they first found it. She has never been able to have children. I don't know how old you are, but you really need to confide in someone that can help you make decisions and see another DR if the current one doesn't help you. No matter if everyone tells you it is NOT serious you need to take it serious. Any disease is serious. HPV can be passed on and I urge you to be honest how you got it and inform your previous sexual partners. To prevent it being spread further. I hope this helps and good luck. If the person that fingered you has warts on their fingers then the virus can be transferred via bloodstream causin you to have HPV. |
