What can cause HPV? can it be transmitted from having sex with only one partner?

What can cause HPV? can it be transmitted from having sex with only one partner?

Depends if both partners are virgins, if not it depends on how many previous partners they have been with. Eight in Ten people have been exposed to HPV at one time or another.

* HPV is primarily transmitted through genital-to-genital sexual contact.
* The exact risk of developing genital warts after having sexual intercourse with someone who has genital warts is not known, but several studies would appear to establish a risk in the range of 65% or more.
* Likewise, most studies of women with cervical HPV disease indicate that approximately 64-70% of their partners will have HPV penile lesions. Most often, these are so small that neither partner is aware of their presence.
* The most common time from exposure to HPV to development of genital warts is 4 weeks to 8 months. However, HPV can remain latent in some people for years or decades before developing warts or cervical disease, so it is most commonly not possible to determine exactly when, or from whom, one was exposed.
* When one partner has HPV lesions, it is most likely that the other partner shares the virus, although this is often impossible to prove. Several studies indicate that "shared HPV" does not "Ping-Pong" back and forth. Being exposed to more of the same virus (the same HPV type) does not appear to delay clearance of lesions. That is because getting rid of warts or cervical disease is most dependent upon the success of treatment of lesions and one's own immune response to suppress the virus, and not upon being exposed to more of the same HPV type. This knowledge is important for couples so that they may reduce their fear of being sexual with each other. However, changing partners will put a new partner at risk until all lesions have cleared.

HPV is a virus (human papilloma virus) it is transmitted by sexual intercourse, and if you have had sex with only one person and they have HPV then you can catch it.

it can be treated and isnt serious as long as you get it checked out, certain strains of HPV can cause cervical cancer if left unchecked.

HPV is a common virus that infects the skin and mucous membranes. The virus is spread from person to person through sex or intimate skin-to-skin (genital) contact; it is not spread by breathing the air, touching inanimate objects (such as a door knob) or shaking hands.

There are more than 100 strains of HPV, and about 30 of these types are spread only through direct genital contact. These 鈥済enital鈥?types of HPV are either: 1) 鈥渉igh-risk鈥?-- which means they can cause certain kinds of cancer (most commonly, cervical cancer) if the infection persists, or 2) 鈥渓ow-risk鈥?鈥?which means they are not associated with cancer, but can cause genital warts. Unless you develop one of these problems, the only way to know whether you have HPV is by being tested.

The CDC reports that as many as 80 percent of women will get a type of genital HPV at some point in their lives. However, most of these infections go away or are suppressed by the body within one to two years without causing any problems that require treatment.
