HPV, but a virgin? |
have noticed these flesh colored bumps on my genital area (labia, to be more specific) and I'm kind of afraid that they might be genital warts? but the thing is I've never had any sort of sexual contact, nothing at all (and for the record, I'm 14 years old.) The bumps resemble skin tags, they do not cause any discomfort/symptoms, I've had them for quite some time now. I'm afraid to ask my parents because I don't want them to think I am sexually active or anything to that sort. Any respond will be much appreciated. hmmm, i think its unlikely you could have genital warts without sexual contact, especially as viruses dontlive long outside the body so indirect routes are unlikely. if you're not sure what they are look up on some sites like the following. could be skin tags, or something normal that you don't recognise. It is possible for you to have HPV from birth or to have spread HPV to your genitals if you had a wart somewhere else and then rubbed too much down there, but very unlikely. There are usually flesh colored bumps here and there on everyone. If things change and it starts to look white / cauliflower like on the tops, it could be, but unlikely. It is very rare for a baby to be born with HPV that is the reason for prenatal care. Anyway, the way you describe the bumps they do sound like warts, but they certainly could be skin tags ...hard to diagnose. Have you ever had any type of sexual contact, remember HPV can be passed just by skin to skin contact. Was is NOT true is that if you a wart somewhere else you can give yourself warts, just doesn't happen that way. Well whatever the case on how you got this, I would have to say it's not normal for stuff to keep growing/spreading/popping up. Honestly sweetie, it needs to be checked out by a doctor. Okay, okay I know you didnt want to hear that but wait give me a chance to explain. HPV affects so many people who dont even know they have contracted anything that once you've slept with a few people, you'll probably be exposed to it which is why the best time to get vaccinated is BEFORE you become sexually active. So what I'm suggesting is that you suck it up and talk to your mom/parents about different vaccinations that are available. You can say it's because you learned in health class/research about it and you want to get vaccinated. Then once you're at the doctors office grab your chance to talk to the doc about whats up with you. It's not that far fetched because I remember when I was in 8th grade they showed us a video on all these different genitals with different std's and I RAN home to tell my mom I wanted to go to the doctor and get as many shots as they had for every and any type of std. See, I sounded so paranoid/disgusted by the whole thing plus I'm a bit dramatic that my mom wasnt thinking I was sexually active she just thought they must've shown very real pictures. Dont feel bad alot of people have to deal with this but no one ever talks about it which is why it spreads I hope you are okay and that it's not HPV but what I really hope is that if it is'nt that you will get that shot Gardisil so that you will never have to deal with any kind of warts EVER! If you dont get vaccinated now you will end up with it later now is your only chance. I hope every thing turns out okay for you hun. e-mail me if you want to. take care and good luck Since you have not had any sexual contact, I believe you are right in them being skin tags. Skin tags are quite normal in the area. They can be a pain especially if you shave down there cause they can be cut open with a razor. (I cut mine open many times.) If you want them removed, you can go to a doctor (sorry, lol) and get them frozen off with liquid nitrogen. It is not very painful, and it's quick and easy. I am reading other ppls responses here, and it's like a one in a million shot that they are HPV and you got them from your mother during delivery. It is possible, but they would have shown up way before now, and I think maybe your mother would have mentioned the fact...DUH! Anyway, just know skin tags are normal, I don't believe it to be HPV if you haven't had any sexual contact. You can't get HPV from anything but sexual contact. Take care. |
