I just had a pap, and it came back not normal. with the risk of HPV, should i tell my boyfriend?

I plan on going to the doctor again next week to get another test and more information.

Yes, you should tell him. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that can be passed even with the use of condoms. It would be unethical not to tell him. It is a common and proven cause for cervical cancer and if he gets it, he can pass it on to any other woman he has relations with for the rest of his life. That's an awfully long time.

Wikipedia has an article about HPV:

Yes, you should tell him. My friends at the std social & dating site called pozcupid .com are talking about this. If you want to keep your long relationship, you'd better tell the truth.

UHHH YES! No brainer. Tell him. I would want to know, and if you love him at least a little bit you owe it to him to tell him. Would you want him to keep it from you if he suddenly got some strange disease that can be transmitted sexually that he didn't necessarily get by cheating on you that I can't think of any specific ones right now?

You should wait until after further testing to determine if HPV is, in fact, the reason for your abnormal pap smear. If you have low risk HPV which causes genital warts then yes, you will have to inform him right away as he can clearly get this. As for high risk HPV, which does not cause warts, there is no way for certain to know whether or not he has it. Still, I would inform him that you have it, and explain the facts to him so he understands. After all, you could have very easily have gotten HPV from him.

definantly, caring for your partner is a first.

No I would wait

ok... if u cheated on him i can understand ur being scared... but if u didnt do anything... on him and it happened from a previously relation... then u shouldnt feel bad... most times women dont know they have an STD until thier next pap smear... but i think u should tell him so you can both be treated...with many types of HPV it is curable... others are only treatable..... i hope that you do the right thing...and tell him...
