Need OBGYN or Doctor. Question about HPV and Abnormal Pap Results.?

What does this mean:
abnormal cervical cells positive for HPV

I have already researched myself about abnormal pap results and about HPV. What I don't understand is how they fit together & exactly what that means.

So I know that HPV can go away on its own but since its HPV with abnormal cells could that go away? Does that mean I have precancerous cells for sure? Or what? I'm confused.

And how quickly can the cells become dangerous?
Should I pay and get the colposcopy now or could I safely wait until I have insurance?

I think this link will answer all your questions.

What does this mean:
abnormal cervical cells positive for HPV

When your doctor collected cervical cells with your Pap the pathologist ran a second test the HPV and found that your cell changes are due to HPV. Testing positive mean you have one or more of the high risk HPV types found in cancer鈥t does not mean that your virus will persist and progress to a cancer.

Abnormal cell are just that these cell changes could progress if left unattended. It generally takes several years for a progressive persistent HPV infection to progress to cancer鈥ut some cell changes do progress faster鈥he link above will tell you of these cell changes.

In most cases a woman does build immunity to her acquired HPV type, but sometimes a doctor will recommend treatments to help your body identify these changes and remove the abnormal cells.

How long will it be before you have insurance? A colopscopy allows the doctor to see the cervix better and take a biopsy of anything he sees that is unusual. This biopsy gives the doctor a better understanding of the cell changes鈥?the specimen he takes shows the depth or how mush tissue is involved.

This may give you more facts.

I wish you well.

PS re the post from Ndnquah....the colpscopy is a view of the cervix a colonoscopy is a view of the colon.

Not a doctor at all, but found this info (plus other info I didn't include):

"HPV and Cervical Cancer
Certain HPV types are classified as "high-risk" because they lead to abnormal cell changes and can cause genital cancers: cervical cancer as well as cancer of the vulva, anus, and penis. In fact, researchers say that virtually all cervical cancers 鈥?more than 99% -- are caused by these high-risk HPV viruses. The most common of the high-risk strains of HPV are types 16 and 18, which cause about 70% of all cervical cancers.

If the body clears the infection, the cervical cells return to normal. But if the body doesn't clear the infection, the cells in the cervix can continue to change abnormally. This can lead to precancerous changes or cervical cancer."

Maybe getting checked more frequently would be a good idea. I know I would be kind of scared if it were me, hope all will turn out fine for you. Best of luck and hope yours will be one to clear up on it's own.

I had my first colonoscopy and year and a half ago and they found 3 polyps. I then had a hysterectomy because of back pain and told them to take it all so I wouldn't have to worry about cancer. I had it done again a month ago and found diverticulitis. My mom has colon cancer so I'm high risk. If I were you I would have the colonoscopy. If you don't have the money look for resources that will help you. If you weigh the odds I think you'll agree to have it done and pay for it!!
