What's a potential HPV carrier to do?

Ok, so from what I know, I might be a potentially carrier of HPV.

The good news is that it's not the kind that causes genital warts or any physical symptoms in men or women.

The bad news is that's really the only concrete thing I know. I tried talking to my ex about it and she didn't give me a definite answer. She alluded to having some form of HPV, but insured me that I had no risk of warts or any physical symptoms.

She had an abnormal pap smear and had to get a biopsy, then she had to do it all again because her gyno's a bit of a quack. However, I don't remember what the official verdict was on her diagnosis (our relationship fell apart around that point).

I'm talking to a new girl and there's a good chance sex is in the near future. I already warned her about all this and she suggested I talk to my ex.

My ex won't give me a straight answer, what should I do? Just assume that I might be carrying it? I don't want to scare every girl away...

I tried to be straight forward about it, and she seemed to get a bit offended.

She gave a bit of info and then when I asked for further information she just said "Look it up" and that was that...

Most people have HPV. None except the one strain that causes warts harms men. But there are a few high risk strains that can cause cervical cancer in women. You need to ask your ex if she has HPV and also what strain does she have. 80% sexually active people have HPV just most of the time it goes away on its own. Men really don't need to worry about it. Except passing it on. And women under 27 should really get the Gardisol shot to prevent it. I have it, I had cervical cancer no warts thank goodness. But I got the shots and so I can't get it again or another strain. So I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck to you. Even if you pass it on they catch cancer before you get it now adays. I had a procedure and they take it out right away. They watch for a while b/c it does usually go away on its own. Look it up HPV.com.

Yes, you need to talk to your ex. And if she is being hedgy about it, I think you should be really straight forward. Send her an email or something that says, "Hi ex. I really need to know what your doctor told you about your HPV exposure. No need to be embarressed or anything, I just need to know if I am at risk of transmitting it to another person. Thanks so much and hope you are well, You."

Hopefully she can be adult enough to deal with it.
