Abnormal pap test result comes back positive for hpv? |
on jan.23rd when I went in to get my pap test and everything I also had a yeast infection, could a abnormal pap test come back abnormal if I had a yeast infection? I am very scared, to know I could have hpv. and that I might have give it to my boyfriend, I am very desperate to know the results, I am gettin check again on the 7th of may, and I really hope it comes back negative. Can you please help me ? figure out what I need to do?I'm 20 yrs old, and I have never ever had a abnormal pap test come back positive. I've gotten two shots of the GARDSAIL vaccine to prevent gential warts, and cervix cancer. need one more shot then its over with... I went thru having abnormal paps for about 2 years or so. My cells were changing and looking to be pre-cancerous due to HPV according the dr's. I had cryosurgery done (freezing of the cervix to kill the cells for new ones to grow). I have had 2 paps since then and they are finally normal again. Don't let an abnormal pap freak you out. I do think a yeast infection can throw off the results though...actually I have been told a lot of things can throw it off. It is a common problem and I wouldn't be alarmed at this point since you have had a yeast infection. a vaginal infection can cause a shift in vaginal flora, just that, it wont cause your pap to be abnormal, make sure your doctor does a thin prep pap as it is more accurate, and request HPV typing that will let you now what type of HPV you have, types 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer cases and types 6 and 11cause 90% of genital warts cases. It's pretty normal to at least have 1 abnormal pap in your lifetime. An infection could cause pap to come back abnormal. So could human error. Good Luck. An abnormal pap test does not mean you have HPV try not to stress until you know for sure. I hope it isn't. Good Luck. I had an abnormal pap at 20 (or maybe 21) and it turned out to be HPV (almost 50% of women of that age have it...so don't freak out). I went for a colposcopy and it came back as in a safe range. I had to go for another pap 6 months later and my tissues had not changed, now I am back to yearly paps. Its nothing to worry about at this stage of the game. If there is any treatment needed they can deal with it now...its those that go years and years without a checkup that need to worry :) I was scared though, so I know what you are going through, don't sweat it though. superman doesn't quite know everything. You get it treated. It may or MAY NOT be the type that causes cervical cancer. My twin sister has the type that doesn't. Its hard to know which type you have unless you have genital warts. Thats how she knows. Good luck! The VAST majority of the population is severely misinformed about HPV, pap results, etc. I speak with many people who are scared to death about HPV when in reality, it is I read recently that 80% of women under the age of 35 havd HPV. You should get the HPV treated otherwise, you will develop cervical cancer. |
