Please HELP! I have abnormal cells on amy pap test and hpv?

Ok i had a pap smear done and then a week later they told me I had abnormal cells and hpv or flat warts. My understanding is that i have a different type of hpv than the tyoe that causes cancer and genital warts, but she also called it flat warts which i have never heard of. But if i only have the type that causes flat warts on hands and feet then why do i have abnormal cells, can any abnormal cells cause cancer?

Also my dr told me to go see a gynocologist and get gardasil injections. Why would i need the injections if i already have hpv?

If you have abnormal cells your gyno will be able to locate them with other tests.
HPV can lead to displacia diplacia is precancer cells
Go to the gyno and get the shots your doctor can help you get ready of the HPV
in your body

Weren't you told to get a biopsy to tell which kind of HPV you've got (there are 30 kinds; some more cancerous than others), in order to determine the course of treatment? Also, you should tell your sexual partners about your predicament so they don't go around spreading the disease, if they happened to have had contracted it. And, to the first poster, some forms of HPV do cause warts on one's hands and feet.

Abnormal cells can be cancerous. Thats why they are concerned. All types of HPV can cause cancer, some types are just more likely to do so. All HPV is genital warts. Warts on hands and feet aren't HPV, that would be the reason for abnormal cells, because the HPV was contracted.

You may need gardasil to prevent other types of HPV.

Your Pap smear showed abnormal cervical cell changes and your HPV test was positive? The only FDA approved HPV test screens only for high risk HPV types. The test does not tell us we carry one or more high risk HPV types but we don鈥檛 know what specific HPV type we carry. Only high risk HPV types can cause cancer. Having high risk HPV does not mean that your HPV infection will progress to a cancer. It usually takes many years of a persistent progressive HPV infection to progress to a cancer.

Do you also have genital warts of the vulva?

Pathology of HPV will refer to flat architect, flatten cells鈥ou can see more referenced to the description of flat

HPV types that are found on the hands or feet are not generally seen in the genital area. Visible genital warts can take on different appearances some flat some looking more like skin tags other being the more cauliflower appearance.

Both high and low risk HPV types can cause abnormal cell changes but the FDA approved HPV test only screens for high risk HPV types.

The HPV vaccine can be given after a diagnosis of genital warts or of abnormal cervical cell changes. The vaccine does not prevent all HPV types. Over 30 high and low risk HPV types are found in the genital area. The vaccine only prevents 4 HPV types. Two low risk HPV types 6 and 11 (cause 90% of all visible genital warts) and 2 high risk HPV types 16 and 18 (found in 70% of cervical cancers). The vaccine does not treat the HPV types that you have but you may not have all 4 HPV types. More information on the vaccine www.gardasil.com

Your family doctor may have wanted you to see a gynecologist so that they can monitor your infection better. Some doctors don鈥檛 stock the vaccine but if you are interested in getting the vaccine check with your gynecologist to make sure he is stocking the vaccine you might also check with health clinics or planned parenthood. Some insurance pay a small amount of the vaccine others may pay all of the changes of the vaccine鈥?but you may still have office visit charges.

Ask your doctor for a copy of your pathology report to take with you when you see your gynecologist.
