Serious question regarding HPV and genital/ anal warts...?

Turns out my fiance has them & will need to get them removed. He actually has anal warts - but insists he's never had anal sex. One doctor (OBGYN since I am 18 weeks pregnant) I've spoke to said that that is possible to have the virus & warts to pop up ANYWHERE in the genital/ anal area. The dermatologist who is treating my fiance, however, says it is impossible unless skin to skin contact has been made. She further went on to say that he should probably be tested for other STD's as well.

Can someone shed some light on this subject for me? Which doctor is right? Is it only through skin to skin contact, or does the virus cause warts to spontaneously appear?

Also, if you can provide source of information that would be SO appreciated! Thanks.

Your dermatologist is an idiot, you dont have to have skin to skin to get hpv or warts, or herpes. If I have herpes, use a towel to clean myself, then you come in a use that same towel 2 minutes later, chances are you will catch whatever I have, and that wouldnt be skin to skin contact, i caught both genital warts and herpes this way.

all forms of warts are very contagious, so i would say that it is possible to transfer the virus from a hand to the anal area etc, but it would be more likely that it was due to some form of sexual contact, but in your fiances defense, maybe not necessarily anal sex.

I would get tested myself immediately if i was in your situation, and strongly encourage your partner to do the same.

According to my GYN he doesn't have to have had anal sex to get warts in that area, as long as he had skin to skin contact he could get them anywhere in the genital area. I was also told that if someone has it and touches themselves and then touches you that is a way to get it. A GYN would probably be the best doctor to speak to about this. Did the doctor say for sure that it was HPV warts? My ex has a wart down there as well and he swears the doctor said it was a cyst and had nothing to do with HPV (though I find it hard to believe since I recently had my first abnormal pap and was told I tested positive for HPV). Odds are though that if he has HPV then you have it too, but if it is the wart kind then you won't have to worry about cancer. Unless you are the only one he has been with and vice versa then you have no idea how long he has had it or where he got it from, and you may never get any symptoms from it either as with most people don't have any, most women don't know they have it until they have an abnormal pap and are told they tested positive for it.
