Can you have HPV but not get warts? |
I had my yearly pap smear done and came back with low risk HPV. My dr. never told me the strain I had so will I get warts or would he have told me about that? Recently, I took a miror and looked inside and saw a tiny bump my mother said not to worry it kind of looks like its suppose to be there but im not sure...and i dont know what to say to my dr.... Most HPV's don't cause warts. Most HPV's also go away on their own. You may find that if you are tested in the furture, it will come back negative. the pap smear will not tell you the exact strain of HPV you have. only a couple of them cause warts to be seen. the majority of strains will only cause warts inside on your cervix. this is more common. regardless, it's not worth freaking out over one tiny bump that may have been there forever and now you're just looking for it. if there were many, your dr would be able to prescribe you with a topical cream, but if not, you don't need to be worried. typically, hpv will travel out of your system the way a cold would if you're young. just keep up with it. If you want to get it checked, go ahead. If your mother looked at it and said it's fine then you're probably worrying over nothing. A Pap smear looks for abnormal cell changes of the cervix and the FDA approve HPV test only screens for high risk HPV types of the cervix. |
