Did any teenage girl get a HPV shot (and got all three doses)?

I got my shot and i have no clue what it does

The "HPV" Gardasil shot protects you from 4 of the higher-risk HPV strains.

There are about 30 strains of sexually-transmitted HPV. Gardasil protects you from strains 6, 11, 16, and 18 that cause MOST cervical cancer and MOST genital warts. HPV is even now linked to head/neck/throat cancer if you're exposed to it through oral sex.

Since there are other high-risk strains of HPV, you're not 100% protected. You will be about 85% protected. You can still get HPV, and you can still get warts and cancer, but it isn't as likely.

Since Gardasil is a new vaccination, it isn't known yet whether you will need a booster shot in a few years to continue your protection.

There isn't a Gardasil for men yet, but of course the drug companies are trying.

Nearly all sexually active women will get some form of HPV. Some women develop warts and cancer; some don't. Some never have any symptoms at all.

I received all three shots when I was 18. What it does (and it looks like its been explained pretty decently already) is protect against 4 of the stands of HPV (Human Papallomavirus) that can cause cervical cancer. HPV is sometimes transmitted sexually, and is the only STD that causes cancer. However, HPV is also responsible for those pesky warts that pop up on your skin on your hands, feet, etc. and these can be spread through contact with the wart. The difference here is that those warts won't cause cervical cancer.

It is a good idea to receive the Gardasil vaccine because studies show that up to half of all women in college contract some strand of HPV. Once women become sexually active they have an anual pap smear (named after the virus) to screen for HPV. However, it's not so easy for men to be tested, so it's rare for them to be tested, especially since the health risks aren't as severe for them. So what I'm getting at is that you probably won't know whether a male partner has the virus or not, so you might as well get vaccinated and protect yourself.

I didn't have any reactions to any of the doses, besides a little bit of stinging. I think that its worth the side effects, though!

Yeah, I'm 20 and I've gotten two of my shots. I'm scheduled for the third one in July. It is supposed to protect you from the most common strains of the Human Papillomavirus that causes a lot of cancers (mostly cervical). They recommend it for women and girls under 27 because that is when you are the most sexually active with several partners and have a higher risk of catching a virus that causes cancer.

The shot itself just stings a little bit. When I got it, the second one for some reason made my arm hurt for a few days but it is no different than getting any other shot.

:) Hope that helps!

yes i am 16 and i have had all 3 shots..what it does is help prevent hpv which can cause cervical cancer..i got mine because cervical cancer runs in my family. hope that helps =]

ps: im sure your arm feels like someone punched you too! haha

do u mean the guardrail thing? i got it but i have to get another in a month or something, it feels like fire going down my arm! that prevents from cervical cancer or something

yeah, im 14 and got the guardisil shots. it just helps prevent cervical cancer.
