I have the HPV virus, and a low immune system? |
I have had a low immune system for about 8 years now, and I also have HPV, BUT my question is, i have heard that a low immune system and HPV has a high risk of developing cancer. I had symptoms of HPV and had a pap smear, the results came back slightly abnormal, and my gyno told me that was only because of the HPV and with a bit of treatment (just cream to get rid of the symptoms 'down there') If you have the strain of the HPV virus that can cause cancer, it will show up on a pap smear as abnormal cells. Typically, your body will get rid of the HPV on its own. There are many strains of HPV, some that cause warts, some that can cause cancer, and some that don't do a whole lot of anything. No, there are no signs or symptoms of the cervical cancer causing strain of HPV. Many women and men have it, but they only know it once they get their pap results back. Report Abuse You could get cancer maybe like a 10% greater chance then regular people i would worry about colds. Colds can kill you if you have a low immune system Get it checked. My friend had that and got cancer. It's nothing to wait around with. that sucks If you had a pap within recently and you are HPV positive, it is important to ask your Dr the results of the abnormal pap and what follow up they recommend. HPV can cause cervical cancer, however if you caught it early chances are good you don't have it yet. Your Dr would have made that very clear. I suggest calling and asking what your follow up plan is. Based on your age and medical history you may need to just re pap in a year/ You may need a colposcopy (which is a cervical biopsy) to find out the extent of the abnormal cells and then from there the Dr should let you know a treatment plan. Every one is so different, this is why it is important to call your Dr with your concerns... I hope this helps and good luck :) |
