This is pretty humbling to ask, let's just start with that. A pap smear looks for abnormal cervical cell changes鈥hen a second part of the pap is run screening for high risk HPV types. The HPV test does not screen for low risk HPV types. Most visible genital warts are low risk HPV types 6 or 11. Some people with low risk HPV types also carry a co-infection with high risk HPV types. Your Pap smear only screens the cervix no vulva cells are taken. A Pap smear tests for abnormal cervical cells, not the HPV virus which may ahve caused those abnormalities |
