Spreading of HPV?

My male friend found out recently that his Ex Girlfriend has a form of HPV. She has one of the types that cause cancer. I know there are over 40 different types and most sexually active people have had some form of it at one point. As far as we know she has never had any other symptoms besides the cancer cells. If he has sex with someone will that girl get one of the more serious forms that cause cancer also? What are the chances he will end up with Genital Warts? I guess the main thing I am wondering is does every form of HPV affect everyone the same?

HPV is genital warts - only certain strains cause the actual wart. How HPV affects someone depends on their body and how healthy they are. If you're unhealthy or smoke you have a high risk of developing cervical dysplasia (cancer cells)

HPV symptoms
It is important to note that many individuals infected with HPV do not have outward signs, and may not know they are infected. Results from a study conducted by the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases indicate that as many as 50% of women infected with HPV do not show outward symptoms and are unaware that they are infected. This is a considerable factor in the rapid spread of the virus. This is especially true in the case of HPV infections resulting in cervical warts. Because the cervix is located inside the vaginal canal, cervical warts will not be visible, even in the midst of an outbreak, the most infectious phase of the cycle.
