Abnormal pap with hpv..? |
i went to the gyno 3 weeks ago and found out i have HPV with genital warts. i went back the next week and had my annual exam since it had been 18 mos since i had one. i just found out today that my pap smear came back abnormal. i am going in next week to get a biopsy done on my cervix. what could be going on that would cause an abnormal pap? The reason your having an abnormal pap is because you have hpv. When a women has hpv it cause your skin in your cervix to become dead skin cells which then leads to cervical cancer. When they take the skin for the pap it comes back abnormal cause it is. I've had hpv for 2 yrs and i was just recently diganosed with cervical cancer 2 months ago. Continue with your biopsy its really painful but for the best!! after they perform the biopsy they will most likely do another procedure where they freeze the cervix so your dead skin cells will fall of. Make sure you go back for that cause that was my biggest mistake, i never went back and now i have cancer. I've been through the same thing. I was diagnosed with HPV and I also had abnormal cells. HPV can also be dormant so just because you have HPV doesn't mean that your pap will be abnormal (my latest pap came back normal and I was just diagnosed w/ HPV last December). If the HPV is active however, then it will cause your pap to come back abnormal. I had a colposcopy and biopsy done and it wasn't painful to me, but each persons tolerance level is different. When the biopsy comes back, it will show how much of your cells are damaged and then the best treatment for you will be determined. In my situation, I had to get cryosurgery (or cryotherapy) where they freeze off the abnormal cells. When I had that procedure done, certain spots were extremely painful but in other places, I barely felt a thing. Since you've had warts before, you may have an outbreak of warts on your cervix. I hope this helps! |
