A year ago I was told I have HPV....?

I don't have genital warts, it is the low risk type... I have changes on my cervix but non that are cancerous and the doctor told me that people with my type will usually clear the virus within a year. So my question is, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex and I performed oral on him..... are there more risks I need to know about since performing oral? I am also trying to look information up.... just looking for help from people with experience with HPV. Thanks.

Genital HPV is common in men and women
Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States. It is passed on through genital contact (such as vaginal and anal sex).

Why haven鈥檛 more people heard of it?
Genital HPV is not a new virus. But many people are not aware of it because it usually has no symptoms and goes away on its own鈥?without causing any health problems.

How common is genital HPV?
At least 50% of sexually active people will have genital HPV at some time in their lives.

Maybe more info is needed?

Did your boyfriend give you HPV or are you concerned about your risk of passing it on to him?

If your doctor has not told you that the virus is out of your system, you are still contagious. You should not have unprotected sex until you know that it is cleared.

And, of course, as you have already been diagnosed with one STD, you should be much more careful in the future about having unprotected sex with people of unknown status.

Most healthy people clear most strains of HPV in 2 years or less. But a test at this point would still be a good idea.

Gardasil protects agaisnt only two EACH of low risk (wart causing) and high risk (cervical cancer causing) HPV viruses. There are about 30 strains that are transmitted sexually. So it is possible you could have had both types- and yes, they are common and difficult to detect sometimes.

While most women who get cervical cancer have certain strains of HPV, most of the larger group of women who have those strains do not go on to develop cancer. But to be certain, keep getting regular pap tests which detect cervical cell changes. Penile cancer in men is possible but rare.

Some general info at http://www.smart2ask.org/popups/HPV.htm

there are different strings of HPV
some go away and some dont
your best bet, dont switch partners...take care of yourself and if they say come back every 6 months then come back every 6 months. Cervical cancer if left untreated can be fatal.
I think Guardesil only prevents cervical cancer, I dont think it treats HPV. Really you need to speak to your doctor for more information.

you need to go to your doctor and get official correct medical advise.
