URGENT: i'm scared out of my mind!!- HPV vaccine?

no one told me about the adverse side effects so I got my first dose yesterday and I'm 14. Now i'm terrified after reading law suits over the vaccine and other problems such as delayed periods, sterility, paralysis, and death! I'm not getting a second dose, but what are the chances of these adverse effects? Have you gotten the shot successfully? aren't you scared of the unknown long-term effects?

I've gotten the vaccine. No problems, no side efects. It felt like I got a punched in the arm, but small wonder! I just got a shot in the arm!

Four thousand women will die in the US this year from cervical cancer. Many more will survive, but they will undergo surgeries to remove their cervix, uterus and other organs because of cancer. Cancer treatment sucks. The chemo (which is far more toxic than any vaccine you could possibly fear) is hell on the body. It has to be because it has to kill cancer cells.

The people who say that Gardasil is dangerous think it's more important to scare girls out of ever having sex (including with their husbands!) than to protect them again a cancer that still kills millions of women every year worldwide. Abacaxitoo had some great examples of the so-called adverse events. Did you know one of the deaths listed was a girl who crashed her car on her way home from the doctor? I'd like to see how that was linked to having the vaccine, really!

Gardasil protects against the HPV strains that cause 70% of all cervical cancer cases. It also protects against strains that cause 90% of all genital warts. This is important because 80% of all adult have HPV. It is COMMON, and that makes cervical cancer and warts a real risk.

The people who willfully do NOT get vaccinated have the luxury of living in an environment where we have few incidences of really scary infectious diseases *because* we have vaccines. I'd like to see them fare in a third world country where the situation is far different. My mother was a nurse in a pediatric diphtheria ward. As a rookie, she worked in the leprosy ward. And yes, this was in a third world (majority Buddhist) country.

Oh, she also worked in an Ob/Gyn ward, and by her accounts she saw plenty of women suffering from cervical cancer and severe cases of genital warts (so big they required hospitalization!). When I told her I wanted to get Gardasil, you can bet she was quick to help me out!

Great Buddha is absolutely correct.
I also reffuse to take shots that will supposedly protect me from cervical cancer.
For one they haven't done enough research on it, and they have a tendency to offer these shots to women of color or low income....these shots cost lots of money and there's no guarantee that it will help with cervical cancer.
Nobody can argue that it can cause sterility, paralysis, and death due to lack of research and not knowing long term effects that can later effect reproductive health.
So good for you ! i think it's awesome that someone actually read about this shot.
You will be okay and if you feel that you are scared , then that's your gut instinct telling you something and i'm sure this shot is not worth it !
The only best way to protect yourself is to protect yourself when/once you become sexually active, eat right, take vitamins, and more importantly get checked every year for early detection.

Where are you reading these "reports"?

I have a hard time connecting a vaccine - made the same way as the flu shot - with delayed periods, sterility, and paralysis.

To date, there have been no deaths directly linkable to Gardasil. The deaths I could find were as follows: known epileptic had a siezure and died. Known cardiac patient had a heart attack and died. The "thousands of adverse side effects" were mostly the usual sore arm and slight fever.

The paralysis ... until the lab reports get back, it's just as likely to be from any of the dozens of viruses that cause Guillain-Barre.

ADDING: Anyone can put anything they want into the VAERS ... including one report where a man claimed that Gardasil turned his daughter into Wondre Woman.

I got my first HPV vaccine a month ago and i'm fine, but i'm not sure when i'd get side effects though...
i havent had my period since, but i also have anorexia so i'm not sure what is going on.

Vaccinations do more harm than good? yeah right. Vaccinations have saved billions of people worldwide since the 1900s. The HPV vaccine sideeffects are small, and the chances of you dying from it are smaller. Also people who dislike change semm to create rumours about vaccines doing harm to them. Trust me getting this vaccine is good for you.

List of side effects
The HPV vaccine has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, with many people having been evaluated. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common HPV vaccine side effects include:

Pain in the area of the injection -- occurring in up to 83.9 percent of people
Swelling in the are of the injection -- up to 25.4 percent
Redness in the area of the injection -- up to 24.6 percent
Fever -- up to 13 percent
Nausea -- up to 6.7 percent
Dizziness -- up to 4 percent
Diarrhea -- up to 3.6 percent.

They also tell you its possible you may NEVER experience any of the sideeffects.

Good luck and do not worry your safe.

I haven't gotten the shots and won't get them.

I'm against all vaccinations, they do more harm then good.

You should research more about vaccines- they're basically putting live viruses into your bloodstream.

And yes Gardasil has resulted in deaths. And to think they won't young girls in middle school and high school to take the vaccinations.

Only God knows what will become of it. Many young women are going to suffer the damaging effects of these vaccines.

You have to research and learn more on your own, its good that you're offended and scared, I would be too if I let doctors put foriegn substances into my bloodstream.
