If I have sex with someone who has genital warts will i catch genital warts or hpv? ?

or both?

the condom broke btw

HPV is the virus that causes genital warts. Just because you have HPV, does not mean that you will necessarily have warts though. Many people have HPV without having any symptoms, especially men. Women who get certain types of HPV will often find out through PAP smears which show changes in the cervical tissue.

Just because you have sex with someone who has HPV does not mean that you will get it. Be safe and be smart. Always practice safe sex techniques. Remember that condoms do not always prevent against HPV though, as it is spread through skin to skin contact.

Also, just so you know, a large percentage of people (most studies estimate the number to be over 50%) will have HPV during some time in their life. Unlike other viruses, HPV is unique in the fact that many peoples' bodies can clear the virus on it's own.

Good luck, and I hope this information was helpful.

HPV has been implicated in cervical cancer in women. I don't think enough research has been done on men yet to determine any other possible consequences for them besides genital warts.

It only takes once to contract an STD (or get pregnant for that matter).

Do you know how many men don't know how to use condoms? One of the reasons for breakage is not making a "reservoir" for the ejaculate when putting the condom on (pinch and pull on the tip a little) if there's no built in reservoir.

You'd be amazed how many men and women have no idea what they're doing whne it comes to sex- there's a lot of ignorance and misinformation going around., Many people aren't aware of their own anatomy, let alone someone else's!

Bravo for you to ask questions. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

yes
it is extremely possible
you would be lucky if you didnt
extremely lucky
99% chance you will get it
