Can you get rid of HPV warts? forever?

I just read this paragraph on HPV, is this true? You can get rid of HPV forever?

"The good news is that in the vast majority of cases, the immune system keeps the virus under control or destroys it 鈥?even the high-risk strains. Most women are free of the virus within a year or two after they're diagnosed."

Well the true answer to your question is yes and no.

Most of the time your immune system will get rid of the virus with time, but that is not always the case.

Some times you can have the virus for years, thus leading to cervical cancer in women. It all depends on the type of HPV that has been contracted, for men the genital wart strain of the HPV can stay in the body for months, years, or even a full lifetime.

There it no test to determine the exact type of HPV that a person might have, that is why it is very important for women to get their paps on a regular basis.
For men, then virus does no harm other than cause genital warts if it is that particular strain.

No on can say that "Yes you can get rid of it forever", or can they say "No you can't get rid of it", because there is no way of telling the exact strain that you have.

Again, most strains will go away, but there's some that will not. Hence the reason that article said "Vast majority of cases". If it would all just go away in a year or two then we wouldn't be worried about cervical cancer as much in women.

I am male, and I have had HPV for 5 years, and still have no signs of it going away.

It is correct, the human body develops an anti body towards it and within a year or two it will become neutral in your system. Meaning, it does not go away however it does nothing, it can鈥檛 be transmitted, it won鈥檛 cause cancer and you most likely will never see warts again.

However until then treat the warts accordingly. Visit your doctor for details.

Also I strongly recommend you don鈥檛 listen to the 鈥渢op contributor鈥?he has no idea what he鈥檚 talking about in this case.

Well. It's incorrect that the high risk strains tend to go away. Quite the opposite in fact, however, low risk strains of HPV which do not tend to cause warts, and are not responsible for cervical cancer do tend to be resolved over the course of several years.

This is true. The problem is that we do not know when our immune system will kick in and do their work. Even though our immune system has cleared the active wart, it still may recur later.
