Please help me with HPV test question?

I had a pap smear done and was informed that I have HPV and the doctor wants to go in and look further- I have read information that they sent me and it says that they mix vinegar with some solution to put inside you and that can burn. It also said that they may cut or scrape inside and cut a piece of tissue for examining. The woman told me that they don't give you any pain killers and to just take tylenol- "it will only feel like a pinch", she says. I am afraid- what is it really like?

It is normal to feel some anxiety or fear when we have any medical procedure we haven't had...or don't understand.

The colposcopy will take a bit longer than a regular Pap smear...I have never had the vinegar solution burn...sometime it stings a bit...but it is not really uncomfortable...the biopsy is not fun...but it usually is over very quickly....it does sorta feel like a pinch...the more relaxed you can be...the easier the biopsy will be.

You do need to understand a bit more of the 'why' of this procedure...was your Pap smear ASCUS..LGSIL...or HGSIL...the biopsy does confirm your Pap smear finding.

Understanding cervical cell changes will help...and help you prepare good questions for your doctor...if he does feel your cell changes do need a treatment.
