I had a mole looking place taken off the inside of my leg. report came back saying it had HPV. Am I ok?

I'm a 24 year old male with no health problems and a great immune system.

There are about 100 strains of HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Many strains of this virus will just present themselves as warts on any part of the body, most commonly on the hands and feet (or, in your case, the leg). Warts caused by HPV may not be enjoyable but as long as they are not in the genital region they are completely harmless. Most HPV infections will go away on their own within 2 years. Warts can also be frozen off with liquid nitrogen, which is a quick and easy process.

HPV is only dangerous when it is transmitted sexually. Both men and women can get genital warts, and some sexually transmitted strains of HPV can lead to cervical cancer in women. This is why women go in once a year for a pap smear.

So yes, you are ok.

Your biopsy came back HPV...most dermatologists do not use the HPV test (screens for 13 high risk genital HPV types) on specimens that has been biopsied...so there is no way to know 100% if your mole looking place which was positive for HPV that was a genital HPV type.

I am not sure where the mole was....but genital HPV types can be found from belly button to top of thighs....I have heard the reference to boxer short lines.

Bowenoid papulosis can be a flat red or brown pigmented lesion. Bowenoid papulousis are most commonly due to high risk HPV types.

Many men and women carry an HPV type or two鈥?if you have had sex with more than one person..then it is a good chance that you have been exposed to the virus.

Yes you are fine! HPV causes warts. It's possible for the wart to return, but mostly they don't, especially if you're healthy otherwise!
