If the condom broke during sex with someone who recently told me they have HPV, am I guaranteed to have it?

I'm planning on getting tested asap but I'm freaking out right now. is there a chance I wouldn't get it? Or is it pretty much guaranteed I have it? This happened like 3 1/2 years ago and I haven't shown signs of anything since. Help!

Condoms will lessen your transmission risk, but they will not eliminate it. While some specialists in the field have experimented with testing for men, there is not a test available for men on the general market at this time. Men are not considered to be terribly at risk for complications due to HPV. There is a minimal risk of penile cancer from the oncogenic types of the virus, but this is *extremely rare* and there would be visible signs if that were the case (and usually does not occur until he is well past middle age). As long as your genitals remain visually the same, you should be fine. New lumps, bumps, sores, or other changes should be reported to a doctor for examination.

While you are at minimal risk, men who have been exposed to HPV can still transmit it even though they remain asymptomatic. Transmission occurs with skin to skin contact. For this reason you will want to engage in safe sexual practices, especially if your current partner is immunocompromised, as she may not be able to effectively subvert the virus. In situations of long term monogamy, the decision lies with both partners. Though there is no way to determine if whether or not you carry the virus, it is always a good idea to discuss sex and the potential risks with your partner when entering into a serious relationship.

All of this may sound pretty scary, but in reality HPV is about as ubiquitous as HSV1 these days (cold sores).

Condoms reduce the risk of transmission, but they don't even come close to eliminating it. There's no general test to determine your HPV "status," so you can't go get tested. If you're a woman it would be a good idea to keep on schedule with your pap smears, but that's a good idea anyway.

At least 70-80% of people contract HPV at some point in their life. Many people never develop symptoms and it's thought that most people's immune systems will eventually clear the virus. Talk to your doctor if you're concerned, but I would try to relax if I were you. There is no need at all to "freak out."

theres different types of HPV if she has the cervical cancer type then it DOES NOT affect u in any way cuz u are a man.EXCEPT u can give it to other women...BUT if she has the gentile warts kind u can be infected...hpv is vary common ur not alone i have the cervical cancer type....what was ur responce when she told u she had it because i need to tell my bf and im kinda scared....

As far as I know condoms do not protect against HPV.

More and more females are getting this HPV thing.
