Can you still get the HPV shot after being sexually active?

I want to get the HPV shots but my mom is wants me to wait for some reason. However i'm worried that i'm going to have sex before i get the shots.

Is the vaccine administered to people who are already sexual active?
Is the vaccine less effective when given to already active people?

Tell her you want the shot now.

You can get the shot after you have been sexually active, but if you've already contracted one of the strains of HPV that the shot protects against, the shot won't be effective against that strain.

Ask your mom why she wants you to wait. Tell her HPV is considered an STD, but really all you need is skin contact to transmit it. HPV is REALLY common: the CDC says 77% of women get it.

Point out to her that cervical cancer was the NUMBER ONE killer of women until the invention of the pap smear. Cervical cancer is still the top killer of women in developing countries. Most women don't realize that the entire point of getting a pap smear is to check to see if the HPV you probably have is causing problems.

For women, there is a 4% chance of developing a "high grade" lesion on your cervix. If this happens, the docotors will recommend removing part of your cervix. Tell your mom you like your cervix intact!

Get it NOW! You can still get it after being sexually active but even one time, you may be exposed to HPV, even if you use a condom, and the cancer causing types of HPV do not cause any symptoms whatsoever until you get a PAP and it shows abnormal cells. Get it now. It is not less effective if you are sexually active but why not just get it now and then you will have one less thing to worry about once you become sexually active.

They give it whenever. They are requiring it for new immigrants and they want to start giving it to guys. Maybe your mom doesn't want you to get it because of all of the girls who have died from the shot.

FYI - Most people who become infected with HPV don't get sick. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women will have a genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. HPV, or human papillomavirus, comes in both low- and high-risk forms; low-risk HPV can cause genital warts, and high-risk can cause cervical and other cancers. In 90 percent of cases, the body's immune system will fight off the disease within two years.

hi, sweetie.....ok here we go...yes you can ..you can get it with or with out a condom because the condom doesnt cover the whole area...DO NOT HAVE SEX UNTILL YOU GET IT ...and when you get the first shot ask them if you can have sex because there are three shots ..and i am not sure if you are protected after the first one...just wait it out it is so worth it .and always use condoms even though there not 100 percent..you really should get your partner checked out first...i have hpv that may cause cancer and herpes from my fiance who cheated on me ...you dont want it trust me ...heres a little information on it.....there are 2 types of hpv..one that causes warts and one that may cause cancer..there are many different types of hpv that come together two form eigther one of these ...the cancer one is called high risk hpv which is diagnoised when you get a regular pap smear done ...the pap smear will come back as abnormal cells..and then the doctor will take it from there and tell you to come back so that they can put vinniger down there to see if the cells are cancereous and if they are they will burn them off...there is also something else they may want to do which is to scrap a piece of your cervices to see if the cells are precancerous...but if you dont catch it before it is precancerous ..you can develope cervical cancer and have to have a herstectomy done(cant spell it) and this is when you wont be able to have children ...but if you take care of it before it turns cancerous then you will be fine...no hpv causes you to not be able to have children ...this has nothing to do with children unless you get cervical cancer...there is no cure for this so you will have to go to the doctor every 6 months to make sure there are no abnormal cells...this is a pain in the butt disease...thats pretty much it.....and for the hpv that causes warts, well those are very tiny and dont hurt ...there is cream and stuff for them but they arent curable and you have to just keep up with your pap smears...warts are concidered low risk hpv because it is very rare that they will cause cancer....good luck ...

You can get it now or after having sex but I highly recommend NOW seeing how its almost pointless to get the shot if you get infected with HPV. Take the safe route, get the shot but make sure you know its side effects and its purpose.

Yes but if you already contracted HPV it wont help.
