Can we still have sex when having HPV?

My boyfriend and I have HPV. We think we got it from an exgirlfriend that he had. Now we both have it. Does somebody knows if we can have unprotected sex with each other or there is any chance of geting reinfected if one of the the two has the active infection at the time of the intercourse? I really apprecite your time. Thanks.

I would MUCH rather be safe than sorry. Especially if you have a fear of re-infection.(sounds like a pretty warrented fear to me).
I am an ER doctor and I have never heard of concern like you raise. Generally don't worry about intercourse between male and female when both have already had genital warts. It would probably be smart to refrain from having backdoor (stupid yahoo censors) intercourse or oral sex, especially if there are any active warts, as they can be spread to rectum or even the mouth. A female who has once had genital warts will always be at somewhat increased risk of cervical cancer. Make sure you get your pap smears. Rectal warts may increase the risk of rectal cancer.
