Yes, you can have cancer anywhere. Although I think it is rare without HPV, even in rare spots it can Metastasize from another location. When this happens it will show up everywhere.

1. HPV testing is frequently only for High Risk HPV and other types also can rarely cause HPV
2. It is the really high grade dysplasia's that more commonly go to cancer and these are the dysplasia's most likely to have negative testing for HPV, even though the process started with HPV.
3. Cancer can arise with no association with HPV or other known causes.
4. Herpes virus is also associated with the development of cervical cancer.

Summary, Negative HPV does not rule out squamous cell cancer of the cervix. In combination with a negative Thin Prep Pap Smear is you best assurance.
