Can a leep procedure help treat the HPV?

Can a leep procedure help treat the HPV?

LEEP can be used to cauterize the growths. Source(s): I'm a nurse.
I like TweetyBird's answers, but I wanted to elaborate.

LEEP will remove the lesions. HOWEVER, it does not attack the actual virus (the "V" in HPV) nor will it cure the virus.

You will still be infected with HPV and you will still be contagious. There is no cure for HPV. In some cases, your warts might grow back.
I work for your friendly local health department.
Santana,

both tweetybird, and gumdrop girl are correct. I had a leep done 10 years ago and I have not had any problems since my leep, it does remove lesion, however you will always have HPV unless you undergo a Hysterectomy.
because HPV is a virus theres nothing to "treat as in cure" the virus; LEEPS remove the current lesions and that is all; stoping smoking and talking with your doctor about vitamin therapy to help boost immune system may HELP push the virus to a dormant state; which means it is still there but not causing anymore damage to your body how ever you can still transmit the disease... but the vitamins have worked for me!! good luck.
I had a LEEP done several years ago because my pap smear showed abnormal cells. I have never been diagnosed with HPV so I really don't know if this procedure would help you or not. I just wanted to let you know that ever since I had my LEEP my cervix is extremely sensitive! I have to be very careful that it doesn't get bumped during sex. I have talked to my doc about this and he said it's common for women who have had a LEEP. Just something to keep in mind when considering your options.
