What happens when you find out you are HPV positive? |
What happens when you find out you are HPV positive? The doctor who diagnoses you will be able to answer this better than strangers on the internet will, but it will depend on what type of HPV you are diagnosed with. There are dozens of different strains of HPV that cause different types of symptoms, and thus have different symptoms. I assume that you're talking about HPV as an STD based on the category you're posting in. If you are diagnosed with genital warts, the doctor will likely recommend treatment for the warts. Possible treatments can include laser removal, creams or acid applied by the doctor, or cream applied at home. Some warts clear up on their own. Once treatment has been completed, some warts never return, while others may recur and require re-treatment. The other very common symptom of HPV in women is cervical dysplasia. This is a concern because it can be a precursor to cervical cancer. The doctor will likely want to take a sample of the cells and perform frequent pap smears to ensure that precancerous cells do not appear. If precancerous cells appear, they will need to be removed and biopsied. Women who have been diagnosed with high risk HPV should have frequent pap smears to be monitored for precancerous cells. If you have been diagnosed with HPV, talk to your doctor. If you don't have it, get the vaccine. Source(s): http://www.plannedparenthood.org/sexual-... Well, if you dont have an visble warts then you should be fine. I also have HPV I've had it now for 5yrs and I have NEVER had a warts. It all depends on the person. However I did have pre-cancerous cells from the HPV and they were removed but, other than that nothing else. I am 24 and the gyno told me that I am on time to get the vaccine Garadsil. So ask because you might be able to put it. Its not as bad as people picture it. I aslo have herpes. I contracted both from my bf of 7 yrs and I've just learned to live with it. If anything the Herpes would be the worse one and its not because I don't get any blisters either. So, dont worry you will be just fine. Remember there are sooo many woman who have it and dont know it. At least you know and you can take care of yourself. Also try to do the pap smear twice a year thats what I do. Since I had pre-cancerous cells before and in my family there is a history of cancer then I do it 2-3 time a yr just in case. Better to be safe than to be sorry. Good luck!!!! Both of the above answers are good...I just want to add if you have HPV, make sure that you keep it monitored closely to make sure that you do not develop cervical cancer from it. I have about 3 paps a year to monitor the changes in my cells. |
