What questions should I ask my health insurance co. regarding the delivery expenses before i pay the hospital?

I am in my 26 weeks of pregnancy. the hospital asked us to pay about $600 in our next appointment with the doctor.
i want to call the insurance company so as to understand what this payment stands for. (ultrasounds, blood test...) or also the delivery expenses?...
it's our first baby. we don't have experience dealing with insurance in this field.
what should i be aware of?
thanks in advance

Tell the insurance company about the $600 payment that the hospital is requesting. The insurance company should be able to explain the entire payment. It probably contains a one time pregnancy co-pay, and possibly some co-insurance. It's also possible that you haven't met your deductible this year.

Ask them to spell out the entire payment so that you understand it. They should be able to help you and if you don't understand, keep asking questions. Every insurance company is different, so don't feel funny about asking questions.

First, ask the Dr or hospital for the exact amount that will be due. Then ask them what that will cover. Also ask them what else you will be expected to pay either before or after delivery. Also make sure that they have all of your insurance information on file.
Then contact your insurance company to find out what kind of maternity coverage you have.
For example mine covers me 80/20, meaning I have to pay 20% of the prenatal, delivery, hospital stay, etc. and they'll cover 80% of all of it.

Things to ask your isurance company:
will they pay for a non stress test
will they pay for the epidural
Will they pay for a circumcision if it is a boy
How long are you authorized to stay in the hospital if no complications arise

Just a few things that popped in my head.

Good luck.

I can't answer your question, but to make it easier for others who might be able to answer, you might want to include whether you are going to a public or private hospital and what sort of insurance you have. I've never heard of prepaying unless you have no insurance at all, so it's news to me.

Just give them a call and ask. They will be able to give you an outlined bill.

They'll be able to give you estimated delivery expensive.

Insurance Companies can be pushy, don't' let them.

Just be aware that emergencies do happen, save up just in in-case.
