Where can I find inexpensive maternity health insurance for a self employed middle class income married woman?

Where can I find inexpensive maternity health insurance for a self employed middle class income married woman?

If you don't qualify for Medicaid there is no inexpensive maternity coverage. In fact, maternity is more of a pre-payment plan than insurance because the insurance company knows you are planning on having a baby when you get on such a plan. They are not going to pay out more than they take in.

With maternity, when you do the math and add up the extra premium during the waiting period that all individual plans have you'll find you're actually paying more for maternity than if you paid cash in most cases. All doctors and hospitals will work with you and accept payments while you're pregnant to cover the delivery.

That being said, you do need insurance even if you don't have maternity. All insurance plans in most states must cover complications of pregnancy, such as a c-section, even if you don't have maternity coverage.

Beware of maternity discount cards. If you can find a doctor that accepts the card you're still paying as much as if you paid cash.

quit work go on welfare

I don't what you consider inexpensive; however, you can ask a local agent in your area, perhaps an agent you already know and do business with for quotes. If you are not already expecting, just planning for the future, you can purchase an individual plan and add maternity to it. It all depends on your health status, and underwriting. Just call your agent. Good luck.

You can't.

Any private policy you buy, is going to have an 18 month waiting period, so you're essentially just "prepaying" your maternity costs.

It's going to be welfare (medicaid), or your savings, that's about it.

Maternity is one of those coverages, where only the people who plan on using it want to buy it - so there isn't any "sharing of the costs" like with the rest of health insurance.

Depending on the state you live in... For example in New Mexico you can pay a one-time fee thru Insure New Mexico to cover the entire pregnancy and the delivery all pregnant woman qualify regardless of income or because you are self employed you can submit an application to the NM Health Insurance Alliance. The NMHIA insures groups down to one. So don't lose all hope, just chatting with a health agent might shine some light on the subject.
