Switching Health Insurance? |
I may be moving out of state and I'll need to get my health insurance changed if I do. I am currently insured by Blue Cross. I've been told that if I currently have insurance, changing to a new carrier should be no problem. Is this true? Will I be likely to have to take a physical? Will there be a period, after my new insurance takes effect, in which I won't be able to make any claims on it (ie- go to the doctor, prescriptions, etc). Also, if I have been off a certain medication for well over a year (I was misdiagnosed) do I need to report it? When I called Blue Cross, they told me that Blue Cross California is not the same as Blue Cross Texas. I was surprised by this too. blue cross is every where...not sure why you have to change...ck with aarp.com or mutual of omaha... Changing insurance when you change jobs happens if your new employer doesn't carry your previous insurance. You don't have to take a physical when you change insurance. Your employer will inform you if you have to take a physical for the position. Whether there will be a lapse in your coverage, is a question for your old and new employer. Most jobs have a 30 day period before your new insurance kicks in. I believe most companies will cover their employees until the end of the month that they leave. Being off a medication has nothing to do with your job, but you should inform your new physician. |
