Is health insurance is permitted in Islam? |
Is health insurance is permitted in Islam? According to the jurists of Islam, Helath insurance is not permitted. The reason behind this is that it involves Ribaa (interest and/or usury) because one party of the contract gets more than what it had paid. Anything is permissible for health reasons..that's what i know.. why not, you save for the bad time...! I don't know. But in my country USA you have to have health insurance otherwise you won't be able to pay any of the doctor bills unless your really rich. I have health insurance because it's the only way I can afford visits to the doctor or the hospital. Without health insurance I wouldn't be able to afford doctor checkups or if I was in labor I wouldn't be able to go to the hospital if I were suffering from complications in delivery and would most likely die without medical intervention by a trusted doctor. My husband and I are poor and couldn't afford to pay $10,000+ for delivery, circumcision of a male infant, and hospital stay without the health insurance. We can barely afford the 20% co-pay on my health insurance as well. I'm not sure. i would say it's very close to ribba in some ways. I would not use health insurance (unless it would be free for you) |
