Is health insurance is permitted in Islam?

Is health insurance is permitted in Islam?

According to the jurists of Islam, Helath insurance is not permitted. The reason behind this is that it involves Ribaa (interest and/or usury) because one party of the contract gets more than what it had paid.
Insurance involves as well paying an amount of money in return for a guaranty, because one pays an amount of money so that the other party will guaranty 鈥搘hatever it is- for him. And the rule, in this case, is that one should not take more than his capital money. Allaah Says (what means): {鈥ut if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums).}[Quran 2:279]. This means that one should not be unjust to others by taking more money than what he had paid them, and on the other hand the other party should not be unjust to him by taking from him all his capital money or part of it without any right.

The same thing applies when damage is caused to you, if what you had paid and what the other party who caused damage to you had paid is equal to the amount of repairs, then you may take all this money, but if the amount is less than the amount of repairs, then, if it is possible for you to convince him to pay you the difference because he is faulty, then all the best, otherwise no.

This may not make sense to some people, but if we study with the logics and having what Allah has said in mind, then we can see that its forbidden until and unless its been obliged. like car insurance in some countries. This is another case though.

Anything is permissible for health reasons..that's what i know..

why not, you save for the bad time...!

I don't know. But in my country USA you have to have health insurance otherwise you won't be able to pay any of the doctor bills unless your really rich. I have health insurance because it's the only way I can afford visits to the doctor or the hospital. Without health insurance I wouldn't be able to afford doctor checkups or if I was in labor I wouldn't be able to go to the hospital if I were suffering from complications in delivery and would most likely die without medical intervention by a trusted doctor. My husband and I are poor and couldn't afford to pay $10,000+ for delivery, circumcision of a male infant, and hospital stay without the health insurance. We can barely afford the 20% co-pay on my health insurance as well.

I'm not sure. i would say it's very close to ribba in some ways. I would not use health insurance (unless it would be free for you)
