Why does health care have to include insurance companies?

Wouldn't overspending on health care by the government be better than overspending on a senseless war that we can not win.

Most progressives would agree with you, however the regressive republicans will not and the way our government is set up, a simple majority very seldom gets much done.

As for health insurance companies, what most people don't realize is the fact that the insurance companies are the main reason that health care costs so much to begin with.

before insurance - sick people paid the doctor/hospital, or the family or the state. costs were kept at a range people could afford.

since insurance - people pay the companies IN CASE they get sick, the company calculates the best way to make a profit and charges accordingly then the company pays the doctor and hospital (but only for medical services they deem appropriate) in addition to hospitals and doctors inflating the bills because they are just billing a company and not the poor sick person.

All insurance companies are glorified middlemen. What do they actually DO? They process paperwork..... paperwork that doesn't benefit anyone but themselves.

If you believe there is such a thing as overspending on the preservation of your freedom, then perhaps you should go to Canada where the government overspends on health care. Or Cuba where everyone makes the same amount of money, whether they do brain surgery or mop floors. Don't get too excited, they only make about $23 a month.

Ed J, our government is a "republic" and NOT a "democracy". That's the way it was intended. All previous civilizations that have required a simple 51% majority have failed because in that type of society there are no rules & rights that are sacred above all. I appreciate my right to NOT be subject to a "health code" imposed on my behavior by the government. I like to be able to eat what I want without the government feeling that it's their "duty" to protect ME. When our lives become so intertwined that how I treat myself is within the realm of the governments power we will have become an "un" free nation. Our constitution permits us the right to life(not health insurance), liberty and the PURSUIT of happiness but it does not guarantee happiness because that means something different to everyone and it is not the governments business to decide if your idea of "happiness" is acceptable or not. I would like to be able to have a high deductible insurance plan with an HSA to cover other expenses because it is a far better option for most people. Current socialist healthcare plans would not ALLOW me to do so and that is tyrannical. If you have a cell phone, a tv, a car and $200 jordans on your feet & no health insurance you are NOT disadvantaged, you have your priorities mixed up & it's noone else's job to fix your problem. I think a great example that shows that people create their own circumstances is that MOST people that file bankruptcy file for bankruptcy TWICE. It's nobody else's fault but there's millions of them blaming it on the C.C. companies or mortgage companies or the store that sold them their stereo but c'mon let's get real.

How about we decrease the size of the federal government so it only has to spend money on national defense and legislation? The government overspends on everything, not just the current war.
