Family of 4 looking for affordable health/medical insurance.?

I am looking for insurance for me and my 3 kids. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whom i can go to to find some that won't cost me an arm and a leg. i live in west texas so any suggestions located in this area would be much appreciated.

the company i work for covers me but not the kids. they are onit now and it costs almost 500 a month. I think thats too much and i know there are insurance that cost less. I just wanted to know if anyone knew the names of some that would be worth looking into.

It is a common misconception that individual health insurance is more expensive than group health insurance.

As long as your kids are healthy then it will probably be best to take them off of the group policy and get them individual health insurance coverage.

Of course, you should stay on your company's group policy since they are footing the bill.

You can expect to find individual health insurance rates in Texas to be about 1/2 of the cost of a similar group health insurance plan.

Just make sure that you choose a plan from a large and well known company. Here are some of the top companies in Texas:

1. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas
2. UniCare
3. Golden Rule (United Healthcare)
4. Aetna
5. Humana

Here is some more information on Texas health insurance specifically and then also some information on health insurance for children:

Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. Not all companies write policies in all states, and each company will have different policies in different states. This means the best company in my area may not be available to you, and the best company where you are now may not be the best if you move.

The agent can find the best policy for your situation and budget and can explain what you get and, more importantly, what you don't get with any particular plan. There is no extra charge using an agent.

A good, low/no deductible family plan in Texas costs about $1200 a month.

So your employer is picking up a big chunk of it now.

You're not going to find good coverage for $50 a month, for a kid, unless you're taking on a huge deductible - like $5,000 PER KID. You just don't have a realistic price frame.

If you're low income, you can see if you can sign your kids up for Texas Children's Health Insurance Plan - but they have to go without coverage for six months, to be eligible.

You can get quotes here on regular plans through all of the local companies near you by filling out the form below. Sometimes it can really payoff to take the shotgun approach.

You should really have a broker work on your case and see what they can drum up.

Click the link below and complete the short form. It will put you in touch with local agents in your area. I hope that helps!

The best way to get affordable medical insurance is to get a job where you are covered and get it through your employer. Barring that, you will have to call around and see what you can find. Call some social service agencies if there is any chance you might qualify for assistance.

You will not find any coverage cheaper than what you are already paying through your employer, just be glad the coverage is free on you and you only have to pay for your dependents.
